چکیده
Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate quality and safety of supplemental intraoral anesthesia periodontal ligament anaesthesia (PDL) and intraseptal anaesthesia (ISA) after computer-controlled articaine delivery. Method. 54 ASA I volunteers randomly divided into 2 groups participated in this study. 0.4 ml of 4% articaine with 1:100.000 epinephrine were randomly administered with computer-controlled local anaesthetic delivery system on the mesial and distal side of maxillary lateral incisor for ISA or PDL. An electric pulp tester was used to test the pulpal anaesthesia, in 2-minute cycles for 60 minutes. Anaesthesia was considered successful when 2 or more consecutive no-response at 80 readings were obtained. Soft-tissue anaesthesia was measured by pin-prick test. Results. Success rates for ISA and PDL were 77.8% and 55.6% respectively, but difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Duration of complete pulpal anaesthesia was significantly longer (p<0.05) with the ISA in comparison to the PDL. The width of anesthetizied field was significantly greater (p<0.05) with the ISA than with the PDL, both for attached gingiva and oral mucosa. No side effects were recorded during the study. Conclusion. The results of this study indicate that the ISA technique is successful in obtaining complete pulpal anaesthesia of upper lateral incisors and soft-tissue anaesthesia in this area.

Anaesthetic efficacy of 4% articaine mandibular buccal infiltration compared to 2% lignocaine inferior alveolar nerve block in children with irreversible pulpitis.
BACKGROUND Lidocaine is the gold standard anaesthetic solution that has been used since its inception into dentistry till date. Around 80% of failures have been reported when lignocaine has been used for inferior alveolar nerve block in children and adults with irreversible pulpitis. There is a need to use newer drugs which are available which have been reported to be effective like lignocaine,...
متن کاملComputer-assisted intraosseous anaesthesia for molar and incisor hypomineralisation teeth. A preliminary study.
Anesthetizing MIH (Molar and Incisor Hypomineralisation) teeth is one of the major challenges in paediatric dentistry. Computer-assisted IO injection (CAIO) of 4% articaine with 1:200,000 epinephrine (Alphacaine, Septodont) has been shown to be an efficient way to anesthetize teeth in children. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of this method with MIH teeth. This preliminary stud...
متن کاملHow Effective Is Supplemental Intraseptal Anesthesia in Patients with Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis?
INTRODUCTION Previous studies have reported high levels of success with intraseptal injection for various dental procedures but provide limited information on the use of the injection during endodontic treatment. Therefore, the purpose of this prospective study was to determine the anesthetic efficacy of the supplemental intraseptal technique in mandibular posterior teeth diagnosed with symptom...
متن کاملEfficacy of articaine versus lidocaine as a supplemental buccal infiltration in mandibular molars with irreversible pulpitis: a prospective, randomized, double-blind study.
INTRODUCTION Profound pulpal anesthesia in mandibular molars with irreversible pulpitis (IP) is often difficult to obtain and often requires supplemental injections after an ineffective inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB). The purpose of this prospective, randomized, double-blind study was to compare the efficacy of 4% articaine with 2% lidocaine for supplemental buccal infiltrations (BIs) aft...

A randomized, double-blind trial was conducted to compare the efficacy of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine and 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine when used as a supplemental anesthetic. Forty-eight patients with irreversible pulpitis requiring supplemental buccal infiltration for endodontic therapy were given either 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine or 2% lidocaine with 1:100,...
